Weihaiwei and also the Government mails

during the period of the war be sent
by the Suez route. I am therefore to
enquire what time is actually saved, under
present conditions, by using the Siberian
route instead of the service via Marseilles
for Hong Kong and Weihaiwei. I may add that
the Governor of Hong Kong has recently adopted
the parctice of sending practically all his
despatches by sea, and forwarding duplicates
by the Siberian route. This practice will,
modified
of course, be dissentilled if it is decided to
abandon for the present the use of the
Siberian route for the transmission of
Government mails.
